Jesmonite terrazzo effect pouring
Once the moulds were cured they could be used to make the O from Jesmonite with a decorative terrazzo effect.
The terrazzo effect was made using recycled plastics from sources both in and out of university.

Jesmonite instructions.
- First arrange the recycled plastic and copper circles into the silicone mold, sticking some pieces to the side.
- Measure out 350g of Jesmonite charcoal powder into a bowl.
- Whisk the dry mixture to loosen the grain.
- Pour the liquid into a separate jug, this will allow more control when measuring out the liquid.
- Pour 80g of liquid into a separate cup. Normal ratio is 5 to 1. However, after tests 80g was the more ideal.
- Add the liquid to the powder while whisking at the same time.
- Keep vigorously whisking till the Jesmonite is smooth and pourable.
- Once mixed lightly bang the bowl on the table several times to bring the bubbles to the top. (this would normally be done in the mould however I found that the jesmonite would cover the light plastics terrazzo.)
- Slowly pour the Jesmonite into the mold.
- Spread out the mixture with a spoon.
- To flatten the top of the Jesmonite slowly move the mold from side to side. (try not to do this too much, otherwise the Jesmonite will cover the plastic underneath.)
- The jesmonite can be de-moulded after 4 hours, then left to fully cure over 12 hours.
- The design of the Jesmonite ‘O’s would have gold leaf added circles. Having small recycled pieces would be better, we didn’t want too much hectic detail.
